My heart transplant was now around 9 months ago, as you may know I have to take several anti-rejection medications. If your are not familiar , when you have a transplant your body automatically tries to reject that new organ. It's part of our immune system, my body sees the new organ and thinks its a new virus or disease or something that's not suppose to be there. To keep this from happening I take very strong medications that suppress my immune system down to almost nothing. The benefit is my body doesn't reject my heart, the down side I can get sick very easy and the normal things my body would fight off without me even noticing it, now it does not.
Because of this I was given instructions on what I can and cannot eat and other lifestyle changes I should make to keep from getting sick. For me it turned out my lifestyle already fit with alot of the "changes" I would need to make. I already don't spend a lot of time in large crowds, and with this post covid era we live in people and places already take precautions now, the types I would need to take being immunocompromised. Avoid touching a lot of unknown surfaces , wash hands regularly etc... As far as food goes I basically made myself 3 rules that covers most everything. One I don't eat fruit or vegetables that I haven't personally cut and cleaned. Two, no buffets and Three any meat including fish must be cooked above medium basically to above 140 degrees. Oh and have your own drinking cup always , never considered it a rule, have always done that anyway. I've followed these rules for the past 6 months and have not been sick, fingers crossed, knock on wood lol. If you have any questions or want to know any tips I've picked up. Or if you have some tips or tricks of your own, I'd love to hear them.
